Approach

Our program has been carefully developed in collaboration with professionals, including gynecologists and experts with personal experience, to ensure that the information and guidance provided are of high quality. Our menstrual cup program consists of three distinct steps.

1. Teacher education

At the kick-off of the Join for Joy program, teachers receive an initial introduction to our menstrual cup program. This ensures that teachers are well-prepared when we initiate cup distribution at their school. During the training, they have the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences with each other, and learn about the topics we discuss with the girls when distributing the menstrual cups, including addressing frequently asked questions.

2. Information and distribution session at school

Under the guidance of our menstrual hygiene specialists, the girls, their parents and teachers receive detailed information on the use of menstrual cups and about menstruation in general. Existing taboos surrounding menstruation are addressed to make menstruation cups not only safe and hygienic but also to break the stigma around menstruation.

Each girl receives a cup, along with a pouch for storage and an instruction booklet for reference. All female teachers at the school also receive a menstrual cup so that they can experience using it and effectively guide the girls if needed.

3. Follow-up during school visits

During regular school visits, girls have the opportunity to share their experiences with the menstrual hygiene expert and ask any questions they may have. This ensures ongoing support and addresses any concerns that may arise after the initial information session and distribution.
